Thursday's Three on Art

Today, Thursday's Three brings you a trio of short art-related videos.

✭ Earlier this year a successful Kickstarter campaign was undertaken to complete the documentary PC594: The Art of Rebellion (Bluprint Films), about the defiant life and art career of Los Angeles-based street artist Lydia Emily, who suffers from primary-progressive multiple sclerosis. In addition to relating Lydia Emily's story as educator, activist, artist, and mother to two children, one of whom is autistic, the film aims to raise awareness about and funding for research of MS.

Note: "PC594" stands for Lydia Emily's probation code; she was arrested for creating murals illegally (i.e., vandalism).

Here is the "teaser" for the in-production film:

✭ In Big Eyes, director Tim Burton brings us the story of painter Margaret Keane, who, in the 1950s, enjoyed great success with her "Big Eyes" portraits for which her husband took credit. Released at the end of 2014, the drama stars Amy Adams and Christoph Waltz.

✭ In the following Art21 video, artist Abraham Cruzvillegas of Mexico City talks about the concept of autoconstruccion, that is, self-constructing or constructing one's own house, and how it relates to him personally and to his art. Shown in the video is Cruzvillegas assembling The Autoconstruccion Suites, his 2013 installation at Walker At Center. The installation comprises found objects and disparate materials.
