John Pilger's 'Utopia'

This film is a journey into that secret country [called Utopia].
~ John Pilger, Filmmaker and Journalist

Released this past November in the United Kingdom and shown on ITV in December, the important documentary Utopia (Dartmouth Films) by filmmaker and journalist John Pilger describes, in Pilger's words, "not only the uniqueness of the first Australians, but their trail of tears and betrayal and resistance — from one utopia to another."

The trailer immediately below introduces the shocking story of Pilger's investigation into the bloody suppression and humiliation of the  indigenous of Utopia, in northern Australia, and the expropriation of their mineral-rich land:

The trailer also is available at Vimeo.

This year, on January 21-23 and again on January 26, Australia Day, the film was screened at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney.

A DVD of Utopia is available.
