Wednesday Wonder: Salvation Mountain

"God Is Love"
~ Leonard Knight

Leonard Knight used more than 100,000 gallons of donated paint to create his Salvation Mountain on a tract of desert some two hundred miles east of Los Angeles, California. The outsider artist's 50-foot-high creation of straw and adobe, named by Congress a National Treasure in 2002, is an extraordinary testament to one man's faith and how it inspired Knight's installation, which he likens to nothing more than a passion to make a "small statement" and express it large-scale.

Be sure to explore the Salvation Mountain Website, which includes a history of Knight's creative effort.
