Oil and Water Anthology Released

. . . [T]he only way I can describe how I felt once the oil
started gushing is that my heart broke. . . .
~ Nicky Wheeler-Nicholson Brown

Nicky Wheeler-Nicholson Brown, born and raised on the Gulf Coast of Alabama, and Zetta Brown (no relation), from Texas but now resident in Scotland, have never met in person, but both are members of a Southern Writers group on the social networking site She Writes, both are accomplished writers and editors, and both, like people everywhere last April, were disgusted and heart-sick over the BP oil disaster. Both also decided to do something with their anger and frustration.

What Brown and Brown did was develop a concept for a "charity anthology" — Oil and Water... and Other Things That Don't Mix — sales of which would be used to the benefit of devastated wildlife and the environment of the Bay Area as well as Gulf Coast residents whose livelihoods and way of life were harmed by the oil spill. They came up with a theme ("Conflict. . . Resolution Optional"), issued a call for submissions to the She Writes online community of writers, made selections from the stories, poems, and recollections that came in, and spent the next several months getting the anthology through the production process at LL-Publications, an independent publishing company that Zetta Brown operates with her husband Jim Brown in Scotland. They also made arrangements with The Bay Area Food Bank and MOBILE Baykeeper® to be the beneficiaries of the anthology's sales.

Not all stories are specific to the South, but all have the
theme of conflict and there is fiction and non-fiction inside.
The stories, poems, and recollections will make you laugh, cry,
think — and some may even get you angry — and topics range
from personal relationships to dealing with the kitchen oven.

LL-Publications is pleased to announce today the release of Oil and Water, which is available from Amazon, Barnes and Noble, LL-Publications, and other online book retailers.

The cost of the anthology is $14.99 (plus shipping and handling, where applicable). All sales proceeds will be divided between the two charities identified above.

The 27 contributing writers, some of whom are award-winning authors and journalists and some of whom are talented new writers making their debuts, are: Jenne' R Andrews, Shonell Bacon, Lissa Brown, Mollie Cox Bryan, Maureen E. Doallas, Mylene Dressler, Nicole Easterwood, Angela Elson, Melanie Eversley, Kimeko Farrar, L B Gschwandtner, John Klawitter, Mary Larkin, Lind Lou, Kelly Martineau, Patricia Anne McGoldrick, Ginger McKnight-Chavers, Carl Palmer, Karen Pickell, Dania Rajendra, Cherie Reich, Jarvis Slacks, Tynia Thomassie, Amy Wise, Dallas Woodburn, Zetta Brown, Nicky Wheeler-Nicholson Brown.

I'm proud to be associated with this publication and hope you will join me in supporting its cause by purchasing copies for yourself or your families and friends. Please feel free to let others know that the anthology is available now and directly benefits the Gulf Coast region.
